Harlem Renaissance Wiki

The Harlem Renaissance was the foundation for African American culture in America. It mostly took place in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City during the 1930's. A big part of the Harlem Renaissance was the music: African American Jazz bands became a fact of everyday life in Harlem. African American artists became famous for their paintings; writers & poets provided inspiration for the Harlem community. Activists also provided hope for African Americans who were being treated unfairly.
