Dashed-Line Box
If you start off a line of text with a space character, Mediawiki will create a dashed box around your text. This is usually NOT what you want!
It will look like this!
Table of Contents
Tables of contents are automatically created when your page reaches a certain size, as long as you use the formatting tools for your page sections. Cool!
Proper Line Breaks
In the editing window, you need to hit return TWICE to get a real line break.
Bullet Points
use a star (*) at the beginning of a line, to produce lines like:
- thing 1
- thing 2
Numbered Lists
use a number (#) at the beginning of a line, to produce lines like:
- thing 1
- thing 2
Positioning Images So Text Flows Around It
Normal image tags look like this [[Image:CottonClub.jpg]], which produces:
If you want to position the image on the right so that text wraps nicely around it, you have to add a little code after the ".jpg" or ".gif" so that is looks more like this: [[Image:CottonClub.jpg|thumb|caption_text]]. Those vertical bar characters that look like i's or l's are actually made by hitting shift-\.
Text flowing around an image that is positioned off to one side. For this to work it looks like you have to put the image line first, then the text that's going around it.
