Talk:Language and Writing
From Rome
GRADING COMMENTS: I really like your quote and introduction. The style of writing in the first two sentences really intrigues the reader and makes the reader want to read your article! Zeke's photo of his wax tablet was very creative and showed extra effort than what was expected. Very impressive. Similarly, Liv's drawing of the Roman writer adds a personal touch to the page. Is it based on any particular writer?
The table of Roman letters and numbers were very helpful. Can you find other examples for the Roman roots? Or perhaps designate an area and the other students can add words that use the Roman roots.
Your quotes are chosen well and it's wonderful you were able to find quotes from Ancient Romans.
SPECIFIC FEEDBACK:
- The sentence "To be without these things is a terrible thing, so we owe Rome a lot of thanks," has an informal tone to it. Can you think of another way to say this sentiment?
- Whenever you refer to Romance languages, the 'r' needs to be capitalized. That will distinguish the words "Romance" (which refers to the time period) from "romance."
- "Roman writers were highly thought of and writing was considered one of the very high arts." Can you find examples to support this idea or to help explain it more?
- "He wrote a span from the mythical times to his own day, around 59 B.C. to 17 A.D.." This sentence is confusing. How would you reword this to make it more clear?
- Remember to always distinguish between BC & AD when you are referring to dates in ancient times.
- In the "Delivering a Piece of Work" section, you found out interesting information. Who knew there were ancient Roman professional clappers? Make sure your verb tense stays the same throughout the section.
- Your References section needs work. Some of the resources, especially the "History Alive!" textbook, is missing all of the necessary info, like editor, publisher, date, etc. Also, when you cite references online, you should include the URL.
FINAL COMMENTS: Overall, you two should be very proud of the work you put into this page. Nice job!

Thanks, Raffi, but I meant to put romance. The Romance languages, you know? But thanks for your concern.
Hey guys, while researching ancient Roman authors, I came upon this AMAZING quote site. A bunch of authors, and their famous quotes! Check it out: [1]

it still does not make alot of sence but whatever=( -raffi
im concerned! i dont want any of you to get bad grades but, i dont see any original drawing, references, external links, and i only see one image from the internet (unless that roman letter table counts as one.) i only see one quote, and no link. but i think the rest is well written.

You guys forgot a couple things. An origional drawing (don't be modest about your work.), you need one more online picture, you need a link to someone elses page, references typed out, and three links to websites. Overall, I learned a lot! I liked how you added the Roman alphebet and number system. I didn't know that the Roman language was based off of Latin.-Lila
There are some things that you guys fogot... you don't have an original drawing and you need another picture from the internet. you need one more quote. you need a reference section with all the sites, articles, and books you used. you need a link to someone else's page and three external links. and there are a few grammar mistakes. overall i think it was really good and i liked how you added the alphabet and numbers and i learned a lot about what they used to write -Michela
I liked the roman alphabet a lot. But on the other hand, you guys are missing a couple things. You're missingone internal link to another wiki, one more quote, and a "Reference" section. -Jennifer..... Good bye
I really enjoyed reading this wiki page because you can learn a lot. I think to finish this article you need to add more drawn pictures, a quote, and different links. GOOD WORK!-vlad
also you might wanna beef up your section a little more, there could be more writing
Good job, you got most of the things on there. You're just missing a few items. 1. Orginal drawing 2. I'm not sure if you guys had any notes from the SFPl because you didn't site them 3. Need an internal link 4. Try to put some external links in there 5. I didn't see a "References" section in your page, try to add it. Get all of these, and you guys are golden! Nice job -- David
This is very well writen! You have so many interesting facts. I learned a lot about the Latin language and more about the alphabet. However, you are missing a few things. There are a couple of grammar mistakes. You do not have any internal or external links and there is not a reference section. I enjoyed this a lot! GOOD WORK! - Olivia M.
Hey guys--yeah, I know. I was supposed to work on it this weekend, but we had back to back to back Christmas events, planning for Greta's play, lessons, rehearsals...you get the idea. This is the first real chunk of time I could work on it, and no fear, it will e done tonight. Thanks for your concern, and I deeply apologize for keeping you waiting.
